During his time working as a regional manager for the Alive charity, Malcolm helped devise, develop, and deliver their extensive training and coaching programme. From half-day training sessions to the highly successful coaching and mentoring programme, these training courses were always popular and very well received. Malcolm has continued to develop his own training sessions, which can be tailored to suit individual care settings and the needs of their staff and, of course, residents.
Topics which can be covered include:
- Meaningful engagement with people living with dementia – this comprehensive course explores a variety of themes and approaches. Participants will have the opportunity to learn new skills and share ideas during this creative experiential training session.
- Creative dance and movement – based on the Biodanza model created by Professor Rolando Toro, this course explores the beneficial impact of music and how, when combined with creative, expressive movement, it can become a powerful tool for encouraging self-expression, communication, and connection.
- Using touchscreen technology with older people and people living with dementia – smartphones have become ubiquitous in recent years, and this course demonstrates how touchscreen technology can be used to engage with creativity and can open doors into the lives of older people, as well as provide an effective and easily accessible window on the world.
- Living verse: poetry in the moment – poetry was once described as “the closest we can come to the language of the heart with words” and, during this course, participants will learn how to lead creative, spontaneous group poetry sessions which can be used very effectively with older people and people living with dementia.
- Lifestory and reminiscence – the better we know the people we are supporting, the better we can serve them. This course explores a number of techniques for engaging with the lifestories of older people and how we can use these stories to create deeper connections.
